10 of Top 20 Carriers Exit Long Term Care Market

Do you need Long Term Care coverage?

Do you already have a policy?  Are you sure?

You should expect higher costs and a much more difficult approval process as a growing number of household-name insurers stopped selling LTC policies.

According to Limra International, 10 of the Top 20 insurers have exited the market, including: Guardian Life; Hartford; MetLife; Penn Treaty; Prudential; and Unum Group.  In July 2012, Genworth Financial and TransAmerica also suspended further sales, until new plans and rates are approved.

Other LTC carriers have increased premiums up to 40%, due to increased life expectancy, higher utilization and reduced investment return rates.
